RARE HUMMINGBIRD HAWKMOTH SEEN AT KENEGIE MANOR

We are buzzing!

It has been really exciting at Kenegie this week.

For our VIP’s who have been visiting  Kenegie long enough, you may remember the roundabout on the Park area was rather neglected.  Two years ago, we made a concerted effort to change that and brought in expert help from a local friend of Kenegie, Sarah.    The point was to keep it low maintenance but to plant it in such a way as to encourage wildlife and bright fresh lavender aromas to that area.

You may have heard of a ‘BioBlitz’ (an intense but brief biological survey) and this week we carried out one of our own to see how the area was doing after two years.

In just one visit we saw numerous moths, butterflies, honeybees, bumblebees, shield bugs, and the remains of a long tailed tit nest.

The most exciting sight has been the extremely rare Hummingbird Hawk Moth, which is so distinctive.

We really  are delighted by the way the roundabout is maturing. We had a  formal plan as to how it might turn out and it has surpassed our expectations.

We all try to do our little bit for nature and judging by the wildlife guest numbers, we are taking that as a seal of approval!
